Switzerland : Growing National Startup Ecosystems via Corporates & Universities

European Entrepreneurship & Innovation @ Stanford Engineering (ME421)
In Session #5 we consider the key role that corporations and universities play in pivoting Switzerland's traditional economy towards tech-based entrepreneurship. Based in Zürich, Penny Schiffer leads telecom operator Swisscom's engagement with startups as an investor, partner, customer and acquirer. Lea von Bidder, co-founder of Ava Science, a Swisscom Ventures portfolio company, will discuss the rapid growth of this fertility-tracking startup that works closely with the University of Zurich. Andrea Fossati presents Parquery, a technology spin-off from the Computer Vision Laboratory of ETH Zurich, and its entry into the global parking management marketplace. We are also pleased to host a special guest artist who will demonstrate one of Switzerland's most beloved alpine performance art traditions.
