35 years of experience in EPC work spanning project controls, procurement, project development, construction, project management and operations. Bechtel Partner and Project Director for 3 of Bechtel’s largest international transportation infrastructure projects (click on Projects under Research), High Speed 1 in the UK, Hamad International Airport in Qatar and Upgrades for 3 London Underground lines. Served as General Manager of Bechtel’s Telecoms & Industrial business, Global Procurement Manager and launched its Global Water business.

Detail: 

Responsible for project and construction management of the $15 billion greenfield Hamad International Airport Project. Led the planning, design, construction and project management for Bechtel, with a 675 person technical team that managed a workforce which peaked at over 47,000 persons. The 22 square kilometer site required reclamation of over 60 million m³ of fill from the sea; with ultra-modern infrastructure consisting of 5-level 24 million passenger/yr terminal of nearly 600,000m²; an Emiri terminal; 100-room transit hotel, parking facilities for 7500+, glass-domed public mosque; automated 750,000 ton/yr cargo center, 90,000-meal catering facility, twin A380 plus 11 jet aircraft maintenance facility; two runways 4850 & 4250 meters in length; 90m air traffic control tower, airport-wide integrated communications and management systems for a total of 114 facilities. Oversaw a 42+ million hour period without lost time injury and took the project from 55 to 99% complete in 32 months.

Detail: 

Led a joint venture team of Arup, Bechtel, Halcrow and Systra to deliver the £3.5 billion, 8000+ person Channel Tunnel Rail Link Section 2, a high speed rail system from Kent to Central London. The Project was comprised of 40km of tunnels, a major underground and mainline rail hub at historic St Pancras station which was meticulously refurbished, 2 new suburban stations, a new depot and major viaduct and civil works. The Project was delivered ahead of schedule and under budget for client London Continental Railways.

Led integrated client team responsible for delivering £2.9 billion in capital improvements to the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines which carry over 45% of London Underground passengers. Projects included upgrading 99 stations, 150 escalators and 32 lifts, replacing and refurbishing 150km of track; all these works delivered ahead of schedule. The largest brown-field signaling upgrade in the world, and a quantum leap from the WWII era mechanical lever-frame line-side signals being replaced, the Jubilee line upgrade increased system capacity by 40%. A similar upgrade on the Northern line was commenced. Achieved 20 month, contiguous 8.8M hours without a single lost time injury; unprecedented on a UK operating railway.
