The deputy United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees approached Tino Cuéllar, director of the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, to form a collaboration between Stanford’s Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC) and the UNHCR that would explore ideas to better protect and support more than 42 million refugees, internally displaced and stateless people worldwide.

Using modern Monte Carlo Markov chain techniques to generate posterior distributions on the space of transformations on manifolds, we are discovering the geometric features predictive of back pain using high resolution imagery.
I am working to measure high precision (better than 5% uncertainties) 206Pb/238U ages on natural apatites. Trace element concentrations in apatites include Li, Cl, S, F, Mg, Fe, Sc, Y, REE, Hf, Th, and U, and are reproducible to better than 5% (1sigma). I have been working with several groups to analyze natural apatites, as well as Jonathan Payne's group analyzing trace elements in conodonts.
